iPhone 17 Slim could surpass Pro Max price, with Plus model potentially eliminated

Even though the iPhone 16 has yet to arrive, whispers are already circulating about its successor, the iPhone 17. Previously, it was suggested that the next-generation iPhone would be powered by a new processor from Apple's main chip supplier, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). Additional reports indicate that Apple may discontinue the Plus model after the iPhone 16 launch this year. Now, it is being reported that the iPhone 17 Slim will not only replace the Plus model, but it may also become the most expensive model in the series.
Earlier this month, industry analyst Jeff Pu predicted that the iPhone 16 series would be the swan song for the Plus models. A recent report from The Information confirms this, stating that the iPhone 16 Plus will indeed be the last of its kind. Instead of the iPhone 17 Plus, we may see the iPhone 17 Slim arriving for the first time.
The Information report suggests that the replacement Plus model will be "significantly thinner" than the current iPhones and will feature enhancements such as a revised camera system. Sources also told the publication that this ultra-thin iPhone could launch in 2025 as part of the iPhone 17 lineup. This model, known internally as D23, is expected to get a major overhaul that will be reminiscent of the transformative changes of the iPhone X in 2017. Whereas iPhone has quite thin chassis and small display cutout.
There were earlier rumors that Apple might replace the dynamic island with a pinhole cutout, possibly starting with the iPhone 16 series. Other possible changes include moving the rear camera from the traditional top-left corner to the top center of the device. The screen size could range between 6.12 inches for the standard iPhone and 6.69 inches for the iPhone 16 Pro Max. While the exact dimensions of the new thinner iPhone are unknown, the current thinnest iPhone is the third-generation iPhone SE, which measures 0.29 inches thick.
Additionally, the iPhone 17 Slim could cost more than the Pro Max, making the slim model one of the best offerings next year.
The Plus size variant debuted with the iPhone 14 lineup in 2022, catering to customers who want a larger screen without opting for a premium Pro model. This trend continued with the iPhone 15 Plus and Apple is set to include the iPhone 16 Plus in its 2024 lineup. If the iPhone 16 is indeed the last to feature a Plus model, the Plus version will last three years, just one year longer than the iPhone mini.
